Cardozo, Benjamin
(1870-1918)
   American Supreme Court Justice. Born in New York, he practised law until he was elected to the Supreme Court of New York. Eventually he became chief judge of the Court of Appeals, and in 1932 was appointed to the United States Supreme Court. A defender of the New Deal social legislation, he wrote a range of legal studies including The Nature of the Judicial Process, The Growth of Law, Paradoxes of Legal Science and Law and Literature.
